Birthing [spring] 

an oak glams fists of green, 

steps out of its bark,

shimmies across the moss

on slip-sliding earth, 

grass goes wheelie-o, 

spins in shadows 

of clockwise clouds, 

cypress knees spreading, 

mist moaning reckless 

to the slack-jawed sun

 lilies let loose untamed hair, 

drop white robes and bathe 

in the beat of the rain, craving 

the brazen touch of wind 

wind skimming earth’s wide hips, 

tattooed wind, fishnet stocking 

wind, pierced-navel wind, 

full ashtray wind, wet-bar 

wind, feet-sticking-to-the-floor 

wind, off-the-wagon wind, 

wind the dog barks at, 

wind that leaves a note 

and doesn’t call, 

chianti-and-candles wind, 

wind in our whispers, 

wind blading dark of night, 

wind wrapping around neck, 

around legs, wind aching 

in the belly of your bones, 

wind weaving among oak 

and birch and sugar pine

unveiling in first light.
