Eileen McConkey is an award winning American artist who is known by many as an “Artist of Space” from her 6 year painting period inspired by cosmic phenomenon. Those days are past and have been replaced by her passion for painting in oils in a representational, impressionistic manner.
Eileen recently lived in Kent, England for nearly 4 years. She used her time there as an opportunity to explore and expand her ability and knowledge of the more traditional painting techniques of oils. Living on a farm just a few minutes walk from one of England’s lovely little villages was her excellent opportunity to capture the experiences of her everyday surroundings on canvas.
Over the years her work has been featured in publications like Art Spike Magazine, the Mountain Astrologer Magazine and the Gypsy Horse Journal. She has been a guest interviewee on an NPR radio show. Her solo shows have been in museum, gallery, university and alternative settings. Her works are in corporate, university and private collections in the US and Europe.
Eileen's been a teacher in art schools and private lessons and the head art organizer and juror for the Kent Affordable Art Show (England). She holds a BFA from Kent State University (Kent, Ohio), has further studied at various colleges and universities and has recently studied with the Dutch plein air painter Roos Schuring, the English Modern Impressionist painter Michael Richardson (Wapping Group), the American Portrait PainterCarin Heibenstreit and Nashville native Lori Putnam.
